Enhancing the postgraduate research experience: exploring intellectual climate

  • Date: 2 Mar 2010
  • Location/venue: Higher Education Academy Innovation Way York Science Park York , UK, YO10 5BR

Description

This is the first of two one-day events in 2010 which will consider an aspect of the postgraduate research (PGR) experience and explore ways of sharing effective practice and enhancing provision in that area.

Between 2007-9, the Higher Education Academy’s Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) found that only half of PGR students felt integrated into their department’s community and a little over half agreed that their department’s research ambience stimulated their work (see Park C (2009) Lessons from PRES pg 19). This event will include presentations of case studies from institutions who have successfully improved their PRES intellectual climate scores, the opportunity to discuss and explore aspects of intellectual climate with colleagues and current PGR students from a variety of institutions, and sessions linking PRES to QAA and NUS work. The event is aimed at PRES officers but anyone with an interest in enhancing postgraduate research provision is welcome to attend.
