Description
This was the first of two one-day events held in 2009-2010 which considered aspects of the postgraduate research (PGR) experience explored ways of sharing effective practice and enhancing provision in those areas.
Between 2007-9, the Higher Education Academy’s Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) found that only half of PGR students felt integrated into their department’s community and a little over half agreed that their department’s research ambience stimulated their work (see Park C (2009) Lessons from PRES pg 19). This event included presentations of case studies from institutions that have successfully improved their PRES intellectual climate scores. The event allowed opportunities to discuss and explore aspects of intellectual climate with colleagues and current PGR students from a variety of institutions, and sessions linking PRES to QAA and NUS work.
Similar events will be taking place during the 2010-11 academic year, please see EvidenceNet for details.
